Getting Your Library Back In iTunes 11
Folks, I'm sure that some of you, like me, are annoyed by the new changes in iTunes 11. I personally preferred having everything on my machine in one very long list, with a well on the side linking to all my hundreds of playlists. Was it efficient? Probably not, but more efficient than sitting down to learn a whole different interface.
Here's a simple tip to get that beautiful library view back while still having command of your playlists. It's so simple, you'll wonder why you didn't think of it first.
First step: Create A New Smart Playlist.
This is accomplished with option-command-n or just using the menu to File>New>Smart Playlist, thus:
PC version is almost exactly the same, except for the key-command.
Second Step: Edit The Parameters To Something Insanely Broad.
Choosing everything with a duration over 0:05 will pick up all music, audio books, movies, TV, etc. and cram it into one gigantic playlist. While this can be useful, it also will show all your movies, which will get annoying when the viewer pops up if you're listening to your library on random. To prevent this, we can add another category to parse just the audio by hitting the plus circle to the right.
I suggest we limit the Media Kind to Music, like so:
This will get you there, and now that you know how, you can make playlists for everything.
Third Step: Make Sure You Can Actually See Your Playlists
I know the new iTunes had a little tutorial about the changes, but to save you a few seconds on Google, you can find the playlists button here, below the time window at the top:Last Step: Make Your "Library" Look like the Library.
Don't forget: if you want your "Library" to be at the top of your list list when you click on Playlists, add a space before the word.If I helped you, please share!
